Step by Step Guide

Open your Winlink Express program.

Start a new message by clicking on the paper icon link.

A new window will appear with a blank message.

Click on “Select Templates”.

Click on “Standard Templates”.

Click on “Weather forms”.

Double click on “Local Weather Report” or severe weather report if needed.

Then the Current Local Weather report form will pop up.

When you open the weather form it will automatically populate your call sign, the Lat & Long, and grid square, provided that the information is in your Winlink program. If this does not automatically populate you may manually put this information in.

Next be sure to click the Imperial button so that information is given in °F, inches, and MPH. This will ensure that we are all reporting the weather the same way.

Put in the observer’s name, and put in your city, state, and county.

Feel free to add any notes that may further explain your weather condition.

When complete click “Submit”

A pop-up window will appear, click OK

The information from the form will automatically populate your message

Put in the net control’s call sign KC7VBT in the “To” line

On the “Cc” line use your everyday email address. Net control will respond to all emails listed, this way you may see the net response sooner.

When finished with the message, click “Posts to Outbox”, this will queue up your message for the next time you open a session

Click on the drop-down box next to the open session. Choose your method for sending this message.

There are too many variables to guide you through how to set up your equipment and what method to use when sending a message. This is an area we all need to get better at.

Once you have set up your sending method, click on “Open Session” and this will begin the process of sending your message.
